HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION ( PE)
PE classes alternate by grade level meeting twice per week. Health education is an elective and is offered once per week.
Philosophy Statement: The Holy Spirit dwells in us therefore, the body is God’s temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). As Christians we have the duty care for our bodies. The Physical Education Department at TLS aims to help students become physically fit leaders in Christ. PE classes focus on the fitness of body, spirit, and mind.
PE classes are structured to promote fitness through individual and team challenges. Moreover, PE provides a means to refine self-discipline and increase social skills. Students will learn to overcome personal limitations, and celebrate the success of peers.
Depending on class size, TLS students may be placed in classes according to gender with co-ed opportunities. Students are expected to change for PE classes and will be assigned a locker.
Health Education (HE) Health Education is an ever expanding elective course that will help students become aware of their body compositions, set health and nutrition goals, monitor fitness levels, and use guidelines set by the American Council on Exercise (A.C.E.). Due to the rising rate of obesity among youth today, health and nutrition studies have been added to general PE.
Health Education activities will rotate units throughout the year. Units include sections of digitally led exercise games, or other digitally led options for guided dance, fresh start fitness, sport based skill drills, running, mixed martial arts/cardio work. Food & Nutrition Science will be taught using 4H cooking activities with You’re the Chef and Foodworks as units in HE.
Currently, TLS has the opportunity to partner with another large Christian organization to join forces to ensure all 5-8 students have the opportunity to compete in sports. TLS provides a range of opportunities for sports for grades 5-8, such as volleyball, basketball, cross country, and partners with community associations for football.
