Electives will be offered to the Junior High Academy students (5-8). Students will attend 4-6 weeks of band and choir, and after that have an option of another elective enrichment class.
CHOIR - Professional vocal training by a master teacher. Students learn to sing and perform on key.
BAND – Professional music instruction by an accomplished musician and composer. Students learn to play an instrument of choice and prepare for concert performances and regional competitions.
Options include the following:
Art Masterpiece- Students study not only art history, but create works of art in the style of the masters. Students may have the opportunity to be their own masters of art, as well as explore other principles and forms of visual art. Math-Art will also be introduced.
Health Education (HE)- Health Education will help students become aware of their body compositions, set health and nutrition goals, monitor fitness levels, and use guidelines set by the American Council on Exercise ( A.C.E.) and KFIT. Due to the rising rate of obesity among youth today, many schools have renamed Physical Education ( PE) to “health education or (HE). Health Education activities will rotate units throughout the year. Units will include sections of physical exercise such as exercise – gaming or other digitally led options for guided dance, fresh start fitness, sport based skill drills, running, martial arts/cardio work. Food & Nutrition Science will be taught using 4H cooking activities with "You’re the Chef" and "Foodworks" as units in HE.
STEAMD LABS - Enrichment standards based labs are 21st century learning which integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, math, and the design process. A Christian Leadership course will also be integrated into STEAMD.
MATH LAB- This lab will provide general math support, overall homework help/study time, and math challenge teams. Homework help is per parent request.
*Private tutoring with a math specialist may also be available during this time per parent request ( fee based ). Providing outside tutoring during school hours is an added benefit for busy families who may have other time conflicts afterschool.
