THE BEST LAB
The BEST Lab (grades 5-8) is an exciting STEAMD LAB Elective which will cover a range of topics. Beginning Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) by NASA will bring the principles of engineering alive for students and meet inquiry based science and math standards. Lab investigations might include building a lunar buggy, a solar oven, satellite models and so much more! Students focus on problem solving and math integrations using team challenges and self-directed design projects based on interests. All investigations use a design process that asks a question, imagines a solution, plans a design, creates a model, experiments, tests, and then improves the model. Aviation and Aeronautics will be explored.
Robotics will also be integrated into this lab. students participate in the Introduction to Programming EV3 Curriculum during science. This is a curriculum designed to teach core computer programming logic and reasoning skills using a robotics engineering context. Lessons are organized around key robotics and programming concepts. Students are provided an introduction to a “real world robot” and the context in which it operates. Students may engage in challenges that their robots might encounter. TLS students have the opportunity to participate in a regional Robotics challenge.
