Advanced Academy K-8

Did you know? TLS students can move to advanced classes on a regular basis starting in Kindergarten.

Advanced Academy begins with a “provisional placement” for 30 days to see if the student has the social, emotional, and organizational maturity to move to a higher grade for sections of reading, writing, and math. Students are referred to the Academy on a case by case basis. We use multiple measures to determine entry (e.g., test scores that are above the 85th percentile, grades, behavior, teachers, and parent input).

Fourth graders will be provided supplemental advanced work at their level in class with an individualized learning plan in the event they are unable to attend 5th grade classes. Students will have advanced work options for reading and math, including differentiated homework using a variety of resources, including technology.

Junior High Academy students have coursework that will be adjusted for advanced students. For example, if a student requires higher level writing, reading, or moving as high as Algebra II or Intro to Geometry, then those individual plans will be developed using curriculum resources for separate assignments and individualized learning. Honors Math or English groupings will be held within the regular class. Nationally this is called “differentiated instruction.”  Administration oversees all Advanced Academy individualized learning plans and student goals.

"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."
